Getting Xiaomi MI – One

Is not easy. Firstly, you can only buy them from Xiaomi’s website. Secondly, they only deliver within China. Assuming you can cross those hurdles (I can) then thats the theory. The reality is a bit more complex. In China demand outstrips supply. There was a 300000 backlog before they stopped taking orders online. They have now introduced a queue for which you need a ticket. However that is also approaching several hundred thousand and Xiaomi are reducing the backlog at a rate of between 5 000 to 20,000 a week as of today. But remember this is China so you can jump the queue. Many ticket holders have started selling their tickets on Taobao – a sort of eBay. I picked one up for about £20 pounds and I am now approximately 67000th in the queue

Hey, spotted your blog just a minute ago. I have question for you, because as can i see you have HD2 and you want to sell it too :D. So, do you think it’s better to buy that MI-ONE or buy lg optimus 2X ? I’m from slovakia, so i can get support only with the LG2x … Any suggestions ? PS: Also, From june, when NDT started development(when I noticed) of HD2 MIUI I just love that rom.

Well I don’t think I could ever sell my HD2! It is like part of the family. So MI-ONE or LG Optimus? Well best value would be the MI-ONE but there are other issues. Getting one from China is not so easy and most forums and advice are in Chinese too. That is not so hard for me but if you do not have any contacts then it might be hard for you. So perhaps the Optimus might be a safe purchase. Yes the NDT MIUI ROM is sweet and runs like a dream. Good luck with your decision.

Hi will you be so kind to give an example of taobao search for xiaomi ticket?

    • November 22, 2011 at 7:19 pm

Well there are a few things to consider first. Taobao is a Chinese site so you need to be confident in your Chinese language skills. Secondly, you will need a Chinese bank account or credit card. Taobao uses ESCROW – see here for bidding advice. The search term you should use is “小米手机” – Xiaomi Phone. According to the Xiaomi blog, they are hoping to clear the backlog by the end of December so you might not even need to use Taobao.
